Andrés Pichardo-Rosenthal was born in Managua, Nicaragua, and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where watching the Los Angeles Philharmonic provided him with his first experience of live classical music.
He began piano lessons at the age of 6 and percussion at age 11. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Rice University, his Master’s degree from University of Southern California, and completed his education at the New England Conservatory of Music.
In 2014, Pichardo-Rosenthal was appointed Assistant Principal Percussionist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 12 years before joining the LA Phil in 2026.
Pichardo-Rosenthal enjoys performing with a variety of ensembles. In addition to collaborating with major symphony orchestras, he is a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, and the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra.
An avid educator, Pichardo-Rosenthal has served as Percussion Professor at Wayne State University in Detroit and has taught master classes at numerous institutions across the country.
Andrés Pichardo-Rosenthal enjoys all that Los Angeles has to offer with his wife Shaina and their three children, Léo, Maya, and Gabriel.
