About this Performance

As part of the Pan-American Music Initiative, LA Phil musicians perform chamber music from Mexico and the United States, starting with Samuel Barber’s Summer Music that shows off each member of the wind quintet. Then the musicians perform music by two of Mexico’s greatest living composers: Arturo Márquez’ lively dance homage to Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti and Gabriela Ortiz’ tribute to important figures in her life, Exilios (Exiles). Finally, a quintet performs William Grant Still’s series of dances inspired by Panamanian folk tunes.
